Scripps IRB and SOPRS

The Scripps Office for the Protection of Research Subjects (SOPRS)

The Scripps Office for the Protection of Research Subjects (SOPRS) was created in 1999 to provide administrative support to committees responsible for human subjects protection.

Human Research Participant Protection Program

The Human Research Participant Protections Program (HRPPP) for the Scripps system encompasses all the safeguards that have been created throughout the system to protect humans who participate in clinical research. The most visible component of the HRPPP is the Institutional Review Board (IRB).

Institutional Review Board (IRB)

The Scripps Clinic Institutional Review Board (IRB) is comprised of physicians, scientists, non-scientists and members of the community.  The IRB reviews research to ensure that human participants are not exposed to unnecessary risks. All research conducted at any Scripps facility or by Scripps employees or agents must be reviewed and approved by the IRB before it can begin.
